Canada Beat Qatar 6-0 to register its first ever men’s FIFA World Cup win.
Canada moves into first place in Group B with four points from two games. They have a three point advantage over Switzerland and an even better goal difference of plus six. This leaves Canada in a very strong position to qualify for the world cup groups for the first time in the history of the men’s world cup.
With negative goal differentials ourselves at minus-three we are in the shot of dropping behind either Bosnia-Herzegovina (minus-three) and Qater (minus-six) so would need to lose by a good six or seven to even give them a chance at leapfrogging us.
FIFA 2026: Canada vs Qatar, Who will win the tonight Match?
It’s a dream position for the team to be in, but the task is not finished. Even if they are pretty much certain of their own qualification, it is likely that Switzerland will exert more pressure on Canada than Bosnia-Herzegovina or Qatar.
Another big motivation for the Canadians is that if they are first in the group, they will be playing in the Round of 32 in Vancouver. This is one opportunity Les Rouges won’t be willing to pass up, and they’ll want at least the level of draw they require to secure first.
Until the game against Switzerland, June 24, Canada can revel in their first men’s World Cup win, and pray for a quick return of Kon. Good luck, Ismal!
