With a brace in New Zealand’s 4-0 World Cup qualification victory over Fiji on Monday evening, Chris Wood became the country’s all-time leading goalscorer. In his 62nd appearance, he scored his 29th and 30th goals for his country, breaking Vaughan Coveny’s record.

Since his international debut in June 2009, while he was playing for West Bromwich Albion, the Newcastle United striker has been the Kiwis’ talisman. He now has 61 caps and is the most prolific goal scorer in the history of his country’s football.

He equalled the record with a close-range header, similar to the goal he scored against Southampton to start his Magpies career. He made history less than half an hour later as he finished off a quick New Zealand counterattack by slotting an effort past the Fiji goalkeeper.
