The 35th match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2016 will decide who gets the early bragging rights in the state of Maharashtra. The match is going to be excited. Mumbai City FC are a point behind league leaders Delhi Dynamos and are well placed to progress to the play-offs, FC Pune City languish in seventh spot with nine points. While Pune haven’t done much to move out of their perpetual place at the bottom of the league, Mumbai is now effectively a team capable of going through all the way.
“The new players practised yesterday. No one said they’re tired. They are very glad to be here and want to play. It is up to me to decide who will play but they’re hungry,” said an optimistic Guimaraes.
Mumbai won their opening battle against Pune City in Pune but the visitors will now feel confident after scripting a good win against former champions Atletico de Kolkata.
Pune City are lying seventh with nine points and will jump to the top four with full points.
“After the last match, this group is good. The players are ready. After the match against ATK, the group is fantastic. Mumbai had defeated us in Pune. We will try to beat them tomorrow. We know it’s difficult but we will try,” said Pune head coach Antonio Habas.
Pune have not lost an away match this season although their past suggests that they are yet to score a goal at Mumbai. It will be of concern for Habas that Pune have not managed a single clean sheet this season and their run of 12 matches without a clean sheet is the longest in ISL history.
First corner of the match goes to Pune but nothing comes off it. And as we reach the half hour mark, there’s little happening to bother either goalkeepers. A good attempt missed by Lucian Goian (Mumbai City) header from the right side of the six yard box is close, but misses to the right. Assisted by Diego Forlán with a cross following a corner.
Mumbai City showing more attacking intent but being curtailed by the defensive work of the visiting Pune. At half time the score is 0-0. Attempt missed by Thiago Cunha (Mumbai City) left footed shot from the left side of the box misses to the left. Assisted by Sunil Chhetri.
Sunil Chhetri and Diego Forlan running the FC Pune City defense down but the visitors staying strong to keep the scoreline at 0-0. This has been rather dull to be fair reason. Diego Forlan with the free kick and it goes around the wall and is pushed on to the crossbar by Edel Beter. And with 15 minutes to go, it stays 0-0.
