BCCI’s probable 2026–27 contracts: what the proposed salaries could mean
A new contract list is always more than a set of names and numbers. It’s a snapshot of the players India may be leaning on next season—and, if this probable list proves accurate, some of the retainers could be changing too.
For context, the official 2025–26 contracts placed Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja in Grade A. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were in Grade B. The annual retainers were 5 crore for Grade A, 3 crore for Grade B, and 1 crore for Grade C.]]
In the list being shared for 2026–27, Grade A would rise to ₹7 crore, with Gill and Bumrah named at the top. If that figure is adopted, each would receive ₹2 crore more than the previous Grade A retainer. Jadeja appears in Grade B at ₹5 crore—one grade lower than last season, but at the same annual retainer as the old Grade A rate.

Rohit and Kohli are also listed in Grade B, alongside a strong mix of established names including Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj. Under the proposed ₹5 crore Grade B rate, players previously on the ₹3 crore Grade B retainer would see a substantial increase. Arshdeep Singh’s move from Grade C in the last official list to the proposed Grade B would also mean a higher retainer, if confirmed.

Grade C is listed at ₹1 crore, unchanged from the previous structure. It includes a blend of experienced contributors and younger players looking to make their mark, from Axar Patel and Sanju Samson to Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Harshit Rana.
A quick but important caveat: this is being described as a probable list, so the names, grades and revised figures should not be treated as final until BCCI officially announces the contracts. The retainers are annual contract amounts, not a full measure of a player’s earnings or contribution. Whatever the final numbers, the heart of the story is the same: consistency, fitness and performance will keep shaping who earns a place in India’s plans.
