Thirteen members of the team, led by Kane Williamson, have participated in a T20 World Cup before, with Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra being named for the first time.

Following his triumph at the one-day Cricket World Cup in India last year, where he amassed three hundred and was awarded the ICC’s emerging player of the year, Ravindra was called up. Coach Gary Stead and selector Sam Wells have prioritised spin options because slow bowlers are predicted to do well in the current circumstances.
In situations when spin has proven beneficial, Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, and Michael Bracewell will all give Williamson options with the ball, aside from the specialist duo of Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi.

With his selection, Bracewell completes his comeback after missing most of 2023—including the Cricket World Cup in India—due to a broken Achilles tendon. In this month’s 2-2 series draw away in Pakistan, the 33-year-old returned to the national team as skipper of the revamped Black Caps, who were without over a dozen first-choice players.
Alongside Lockie Ferguson and Henry, veteran new-ball bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult will compete in their eighth and fifth T20 World Cups, respectively.
