The U.S. will play Spain on Saturday in the medal round.

Team USA commenced the knockout stage and etched its name in World Cup history. However, its mission in Berlin is not yet complete.

The Americans are among the final four teams remaining, with a spot in Sunday’s gold-medal match at stake.

On Saturday, Team USA will face Spain in the World Cup semifinals at 2 p.m. ET, aiming to advance to the final. In the other semifinal, France will take on Germany at 10:30 a.m. ET. The victors of these matches will advance to the gold medal game, while the defeated teams will vie for third place.

The United States has reached the gold-medal game in each of the last four World Cups, securing victory each time. The last occasion the U.S. did not qualify for the gold-medal match was in 2006, when it triumphed over Brazil to claim bronze.

The U.S. has a perfect record against Spain in World Cup encounters. The teams have clashed five times, including three times in the knockout stage. Their most recent meeting was in the 2014 gold-medal game, where Team USA won 77-64. The last encounter in the World Cup semifinals occurred in 2010, with the U.S. winning decisively 106-70.

Path to the semifinals:

The U.S. is participating in its 12th consecutive World Cup semifinal after defeating Hungary 108-56 in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Former UConn women’s basketball standout Napheesa Collier led the team with 19 points (her highest total ever in a Team USA uniform), while the Americans effectively contained fellow former Husky and Hungary star Dorka Juhász to just two points on 1-of-12 shooting. Team USA established a World Cup quarterfinal record with 31 assists, and its total points (108) and first-half points (59) also set World Cup quarterfinal records.
