Ranking the greatest NFL teams of all time is a challenging task. Which teams deserve to be listed among the best in league history?story?story?
It’s difficult to choose the best NFL teams of all time, so before compiling our list, we conducted a poll across Pro Football Network. Many teams have argued to be the greatest in league history, with the NFL having existed for almost 60 years since the merging of the NFL and AFL in 1967 and for more than a century since the league’s founding in the 1922 season.

Miami Dolphins (1972)
The 1972 Miami Dolphins are probably the greatest team to ever play in the NFL, relative to the time in which they were playing.
Chicago Bears (1985)
The 1985 Chicago Bears put together one of the most dominant seasons in NFL history which culminated in winning Super Bowl XX.
New England Patriots (2007)
The 2007 New England Patriots are the only team to not win a Super Bowl which can be considered for this list.
San Francisco 49ers (1984)
Just as Chicago did a year later, the 1984 San Francisco 49ers finished the regular season 15-1 before marching to Super Bowl glory.
Pittsburgh Steelers (1978)
The 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers are the only team on this list to lose two games in the regular season, but their 14-2 record was still the highest in the NFL that season.
1992 Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys’ triplets were just beginning their reign in 1992 when they won the first of three Super Bowls over four years. Troy Aikman tossed a career-high 23 touchdowns, while Emmitt Smith led the NFL in rushing yards (1,713) and total TDs (19).
Several great teams are not included on this list, honourable mentions must go to the 1992 Dallas Cowboys, 1989 San Francisco 49ers, 1976 Oakland Raiders and 1999 St Louis Rams.
