The four-day series, which will take place at McLean Park in Napier on March 17, 18, and 20, was originally planned in response to the New Zealand government’s desire to loosen trans-Tasman border restrictions.
However, with those plans now significantly pushed back and no MIQ accommodation available for the Australian team when they arrive in New Zealand, NZC has no choice except to abandon the series.

Last November, Australia defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the T20 World Cup final, and the rivals were set to meet in Napier from March 17 to 20, in advance of a scheduled relaxation of border protocols.

However, the arrival of the omicron variety in New Zealand has delayed the reopening of the international border, and the series will not be held because the Australian men’s team does not have managed isolation places reserved.
“There was a lot of hope that the trans-Tasman border would be open for those who matched the necessary criteria at the time we arranged the visit,” New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Women’s Cricket World Cup will begin on March 4 in New Zealand. The seven World Cup-bound teams — India, England, Australia, South Africa, the West Indies, Pakistan, and Bangladesh — will be required to quarantine in New Zealand prior to the event.
