Adelaide Strikers have signed England legend Ben Stokes for the Big Bash League 16.
Sources within Cricket Australia confirmed on Tuesday morning, September 1, that Ben Stokes has signed with the Adelaide Strikers for the 2026-27 Big Bash League season. England all-rounder Moeen Ali, 35, is the headline marquee signing for the upcoming BBL season and will be available for the entire tournament.
The signing announcement came just after the BBL embargo period expired during the week of August 25. Stokes is expected to pocket around $500,000 for the season, making him one of the best-paid overseas players in the competition’s history.

Why did Stokes choose to play in the BBL at this point in his career?
Stokes called time on his Test career during the English summer of 2026. His international red-ball career is over so the BBL is a natural progression for him to continue playing competitive cricket at the highest domestic level. That also means his absence from the England side’s trip to the United Kingdom for the 2027 Ashes series – freeing up his whole schedule for franchise commitments like this one.

On December 16, 2026, the Strikers will take on the Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval to start their BBL 16 campaign. Expectations for Adelaide’s season are expected to increase significantly now that Stokes is a part of their plans.
