WTC 2023-25 points table: India’s chances for final dented after NZ loss.
New Zealand took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in their three-match series after defeating India in the second Test match in Pune. After the second IND-NZ Test, the World Test Championship points table has been revised.
After winning the first Test in Bengaluru last week, New Zealand decided to make history by batting first in this match. A good start from the top-order helped them to 259 in the first innings, in spite of Washington Sundar’s 7-59. In the WTC 2023-2025, teams will get 12 points for a win, 4 for a draw and 6 for a tie. Points percentage system (PCT) will be used to determine the leaderboard. PCT = Points won by a team / Points contested * 100.

The historic victory means New Zealand’s points percentage (PCT) has gone from 44.44 to 50.00, and has pushed them up one spot to fourth in the table. They have the same number of points as Sri Lanka (60), but Sri Lanka’s points percentage is 55.56.

India remains in the top spot, but their PCT has dropped from 68.05 to 62.82, meaning Australia in second place are almost level with them. Every setback for India makes the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year gain even more significance, with little room for error if they want to make it to the WTC final next June.
