Top 7 Most Popular Sports in China till now

Sports are becoming more and more popular in China. Table tennis, badminton, and basketball are typical sports for the country.

Though China is always associated with Chinese martial arts, Sports in China today actually include a variety of styles. Since the founding of People’s Republic of China, a large number of sports activities, both Western and traditional Chinese, have becoming more and more popular in China. Badminton, football, basketball and table tennis are all major sports in China.

In addition to the massive state promotion of elite sports, there are many sports trends that recreational athletes in China are discovering for themselves. We present the most popular sports in China here.

1) Women’s national volleyball:

China women’s national volleyball team is one of the leading teams in worldwide women’s volleyball sports, The team have won the Olympic titles for twice in 1984 and 2004. China once obtained five consecutive world titles in the 1980s.

Though with an unstable development in the later 1990s, the team rose again and won the World Cup title in 2003 and won the gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Xu Haifeng, a male Chinese pistol shooter, won the gold medal for China in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He is the first Chinese ever to win Olympic Champion.

China was dubbed the “Kingdom of Bicycles.” The whole country owned about 500 million bicycles by 1987. One bicycle for every two people of the total population.

The 8th leg of the 2016 Skoda Heros China Cycling Series was held at Shanghai International Circuit in suburban Jiading.

Bicycles are an important means of transportation and could be found everywhere in the country. However, with the fast development, more and more people began to use public transportation or private car.

Soccer may be gaining ground in China, but in contrast to Germany, it’s still far from the most popular sport.

Before the Chinese football’s professionalization in 1994, Chinese football level was respectable. Running has now become the most important sport for Chinese recreational athletes. 44 percent of sports-playing Chinese count running among their main activities.

Ethiopian runner Amogne Sendeku Alelgn won the Songshan Shaolin International Marathon.

“In 2016, there were over one million marathon runners in China,” says China expert Martin Kössler. He accompanies sports and outdoor firms in their market entrance in China, among other things.

7) Badminton:

Badminton is one of the favorite sports in China. You can find people play badminton in streets both in the cities and in the villages. Badminton let the Chinese people have an easy sports option after the meal.
