Tokyo 2020: How many medals has India won in Olympics?

The first medals at Tokyo 2020 have been traditionally awarded by the IOC President.

Since the 1900 edition of the Olympics, India has won 29 medals. Here’s a quick rundown of each of India’s Olympic medalists.

A two-medal haul in its debut kick-started India’s campaign at the Olympics. It has since gone on to win 29 medals across 24 Olympic Games – including golds, silvers, and bronze.

At the Tokyo Olympics, China became the first country to win a gold medal. In the women’s 10-meter air rifle competition, Qian Yang won the gold medal by a hair over Russia’s Anastasiia Galashina. Takato Naohisa won the first gold medal for Japan in the judo men’s -60kg event, defeating Chinese Taipei’s Yang Yung Wei.

On Saturday, Mirabai Chanu made Indian weightlifting history by becoming the first woman to win silver in the 49-kg weightlifting division at the Tokyo Olympics. Mirabai won the gold medal after lifting 87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 202 points in the final. This was India’s first Olympic medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
