The right-handed bowler achieved the feat while playing her 166th match when she scalped the wicket of South Africa opener Laura Wolvaardt during the second encounter of the three-match ODI series at Kimberley. Wolvaardt was caught out by Sushma Verma.

The Indian leads the chart for the highest ever wicket-takers with 200 scalps while Australia’s Cathryn Fitzpatrick (180) and Lisa Sthalekar (146) follow her at number two and three respectively. At number four is West Indies Anisa Mohammed with 145 wickets and at number five is India’s Neetu David with 141 dismissals. Goswami’s best bowling figures came are of 6/32 which came in 2011 against New Zealand.

Jhulan remains to be one of he pillars of the Indian women’s cricket team, despite having her ODI debut in 2002. Interestingly, former Indian skipper Kapil Dev was the first cricketer ever to claim 200 ODI wickets. Even Kapil Dev took 166 matches to achieve the feat.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with other players, took to Twitter to congratulate the senior bowler.

In the 2nd ODI against India women, Smriti Mandhana slammed her third ODI century, second against South Africa in the 50-over format. Thanks to the left-hander’s century, India women posted a good total of 302 runs for the loss of three wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur (55) and Veda Krishnamurthy (51) also chipped in with crucial fifties to take Women in Blue to a healthy total.

Earlier, the Mithali Raj-led side notched a crushing 88-run win over South Africa in the opening ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the series at the Diamond Oval. The Indian women’s cricket team is aiming to clinch the three-match ODI series by registering a win at Kimberley on Wednesday.

The three-match ODI series, which is the first-round fixture of the ICC Women’s Championship, gives two sides an opportunity to directly qualify for the 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup.
