She moved to the Birdsville, Queensland when she was eight years old. Sally grew up with her single mother, Anne McLellan, who worked hard enough to support her daughter’s career financially. Only at the age of 14, Pearson got into highlight winning Australian Youth 100 meters and 90 meters hurdles in 2001.

From the very beginning, Sally Pearson was passionate about athletes.  In 2003, her international career began from World Youth Championship in Canada. She was a gold medalist in 100-meter hurdles.

In 2004, she was fourth running in 100m hurdles. Also, she participated in a 4× 100-meter relay team securing the fifth position in Junior Championship in Grosseto, Italy. The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) awarded Pearson as Female Athlete of the Year in 2011. Pearson is the first Australian to win this award.In 2013, she was announced Young Australian of the year.

Pearson was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM), and this is a huge honor for any Australian athletes. In 2017, she was awarded Female Athlete of the year by Australian Institute of Sports.

Sally and Kieran had been together since their high school days. They had studied together at Helensvale State High School in Gold Coast, Queensland.
