Today NORTH EAST UNITED FC clashes with ATLETICO DE KOLKATA at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati. Both teams will fight for the top spot of points table when they meet today at gandhi staduim.
NorthEast were unlucky to lose against defending champions Chennaiyin FC in their last game and Atletico de Kolkata lost their first match of the season when they went down fighting to Mumbai City FC in front of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry at home. Placed second with 10 points from six matches, North East stand a chance to topple table-toppers Mumbai City FC who have 11 points from seven outings.
On the other hand, ATK are still smarting from their first defeat of the season, that too at home to Mumbai. Not only did they give a poor account of themselves in front of Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry by showing no cohesion.
NorthEast United are currently placed second with 10 points from six matches but a point or more will take them above Mumbai City FC who are perched at the top with 11 points. whereas Atletico de Kolkata have five points from their last four matches but it is the loss in the last clash against Mumbai City FC that will hurt them. It was their first loss in the competition and came despite the hosts having chances to turn the tables.
On head-to-head, both teams are all even with four games played. NEUFC have won twice and ATK have won twice.
NEUFC come into the game after a draw (vs Delhi Dynamos) and loss (vs Chennaiyin) while ATK are also entering the contest after a loss (to Mumbai City FC).
In the start of first half, YUSA makes his best foray shots into the box and he’s tripped from behind but the refree says no penalty or even a foul. both teams 0-0 with a bit over 20 minutes ago.
GOAL! NorthEast United 1-0 Atletico de Kolkata (Emiliano Alfaro 40′)
Alfaro once again puts NEUFC ahead! A brilliant cross from Nirmal Chettri from the right side and Alfaro leaps in the air to head it in in the box. Alfaro does superbly to time his jump to perfection and beat the stationary Kolkata defence. Alfaro’s header has given the home team a lead in the match. Nothing much to analyse in this half but the match is set-up for a brilliant finish.
GOAL! NorthEast United FC 1-1 Atletico de Kolkata (Postiga 63′)
A header from Postiga finds the back of the net and gives Kolkata the equalisier. whereas Kolkata are passing the ball around well, but there’s very little penetration. Javi Lara swings it in and Nirmal Chettri then sells Paul short with a weak back pass, but the goalie does able to clear it.
GOAL:NorthEast United FC 1-2 Atletico de Kolkata (Belencoso 81′)
Again ATK proves that they are the fianlists of the ISL2015 by showing a very good attack in the field. Kolkata are ahead after a simple tap in from Belencoso. Lalrindika Ralte with a cross from the left side and Belencoso is unmarked in the box. Puts it in the box. Superb play from Kolkata.
Alfaro wriggles his way down the line at the left of the box before chuipping one in. It’s too high for Passi, and the rebound is smacked into row Z by Yusa. That was the good chance for the NORTH EAST UNITED FC to comeback in the game.
At the end of the game,there was a good clearance from borja. Alfaro motors down the left and plays in a beautiful ball that is met by a flying Reagan Singh. That had beat Debjit and was going in, but Borja did superbly to get back and clear the pressure on the team.
