Asked to bat first, Gujarat Titans found themselves on the back foot right away as Sai Sudharsan fell to the trap of the umpire’s decision, who adjudged him LBW in the first over itself, but he was reprieved by DRS. However, the duo kept losing wickets, and Sindhu (20 off 18) was caught by Rasikh Salam, and Jos Buttler was brilliantly stumped by Jitesh Sharma when Krunal Pandya dismissed him, which reduced their score to 73/4 after 12.1 overs. Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer provided the defending team with an early breakthrough as they attacked the Purple Cap contender Kagiso Rabada of IPL 2026 and scored 37 runs off his first two overs.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 75 off 42 balls and wrapped up the chase with a six over long-on on the final ball of the 18th over.
