RCB vs GT: Royal Challengers Bengaluru emerged victorious to become the third team in history to defend the IPL title as they defeated Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The other two teams, which had done so in the past, were Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni in 2010 & 2011, and Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma in 2019 and 2020.

Asked to bat first, Gujarat Titans found themselves on the back foot right away as Sai Sudharsan fell to the trap of the umpire’s decision, who adjudged him LBW in the first over itself, but he was reprieved by DRS. Shubman Gill, on the batting end, fell victim to a catch by his rival teammate Rajat Patidar when Josh Hazlewood dismissed him in the third over, and then Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Sudharsan in the following over.
The pair of Nishant Sindhu, who had been elevated in the order, and Jos Buttler attempted to bail them out, but failed to keep the scoreboard running.
However, the duo kept losing wickets, and Sindhu (20 off 18) was caught by Rasikh Salam, and Jos Buttler was brilliantly stumped by Jitesh Sharma when Krunal Pandya dismissed him, which reduced their score to 73/4 after 12.1 overs. Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer provided the defending team with an early breakthrough as they attacked the Purple Cap contender Kagiso Rabada of IPL 2026 and scored 37 runs off his first two overs.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 75 off 42 balls and wrapped up the chase with a six over long-on on the final ball of the 18th over.
