The 15-man team for the two-Test series against the West Indies, which begins in Ahmedabad on October 11, was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Shubman Gill was named captain while Ravindra Jadeja was named vice-captain. The starting lineup consists of bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Kuldeep Yadav; all-rounders Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy; middle-order batsmen Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal; wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel; and openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. The reserve wicketkeeper is N Jagadeesan.

The selectors acknowledged Shreyas Iyer’s six-month break from red-ball cricket for back recuperation, dropped Karun Nair for poor domestic play, left out Abhimanyu Easwaran despite his strong performances, and excluded Sarfaraz Khan owing to fitness concerns.
