MS Dhoni was on Wednesday brought in as mentor of India’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad by the BCCI
As India confirmed their team for the next T20 World Cup, which begins on October 17, a buzz of reactions came in from around the globe, with the biggest crowd-pleaser being Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s appointment as the mentor. Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s senior off-spinner, was named in the 15-man team for the T20 World Cup alongside the fast-rising trio of Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy, after a four-year absence.
He is considered one of the most successful captains of the Indian cricket team. Dhoni is the only captain in the history of Cricket to win all ICC trophies. It was under his captaincy that India won two World Cups — 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Dhoni has played 350 ODIs in which he has scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57. Dhoni, formerly known as ‘captain cool’ during his captaincy days, has also played 98 T20Is for India in which he has scored 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60.
Dinesh Karthik congratulated the selectors for “One HELL of a team” and hailed Dhoni’s appointment as a masterstroke. He also sent his well wishes to Ravichandran Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy.
Biggest news is that Ashwin is recalled to the #T20WorldCup team. No other spinner turns the ball away from left handers. No Chahal means a big vote of confidence in Rahul Chahar. Bit hard on Shreyas Iyer
Congratulations everyone who got selected in team India for T20 World Cup.feel bad for @SDhawan25 and @yuzi_chahal they r consistent in this shorter format.Yuzi took 21 wickets in last IPL in dubai/Abudhabi/Sarjan He is all time highest wicket taker for INDIA in T20 #T20WorldCup
No Chahal, Dhawan, Kuldeep, Iyer, shardul, in India’s squad of 15 is a proof of India's strong bench strength. These players can easily walk into any other international team. Ashwin back and Dhoni as mentor, can't wait for the World T20 to start.
Good to see Ash back, his experience is invaluable. I would have also opted for two wrist spinners keeping the conditions in mind. All the best to the guys who got selected for the Indian Team for the T20 World Cup. I do feel for Shardul,Shreyas and Deepak, but it is what it is.
