FC Barcelona have won the Cup a record 28 times and have lifted it in the last two seasons under coach Luis Enrique, who said this week his ideal final would be against his former club Celta.
They entertain Basque side Alaves, the 2001 UEFA Cup finalists who are bidding to reach their first King’s Cup final, in the first leg.
The final is on May 27 with the venue still to be determined, although Spanish media reported it will be at Atletico’s Vicente Calderon, which is set to close at the end of the season.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will meet in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, and Celta Vigo will face Alaves.
Atletico will host the first leg against the two-time defending champions next week at a date to be determined.
Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto says “we know each other very well. I’m sure it will be complicated, as it always is against them.”
Barcelona, the tournament’s most successful club with 28 titles, will be playing in the semifinals for the seventh straight season.
Celta, which ousted Real Madrid in the quarterfinals, is at home for the first leg against Alaves. Neither club has won the competition.
The final will be on May 27.
