Sunil Narine became only the third bowler to pick up 300 T20 wickets.
During the Bangladesh Premier League game between Dhaka Dynamites and Sylhet Sixers, West Indies spinner Sunil Narine became only the third bowler to cross the 300 wicket mark in T20s. Courtesy of his three-wicket haul for Dhaka Dynamites, Narine moved up to 301 wickets in the format, with only Lasith Malinga and compatriot Dwayne Bravo above him on the all-time list.
In the same game, Narine’s Dynamite’s teammate Shahid Afridi, also picked up a four-wicket haul, his eighth in T20s, and moved into sixth place on the all-time list. The former World T20-winning Pakistan all-rounder has 276 wickets, just one behind compatriot Sohail Tanvir who occupies the fifth spot.
Courtesy of the stunning performance from Afridi and Narine, Dynamites reduced the Sixers to 53/9 in 13 overs before the highest tenth-wicket partnership (48) in BPL history helped them get to 101/9 in 20 overs. However, Afridi struck five sixes with the bat, and Evin Lewis hit five more as Dynamites got to the target with 73 balls to spare in what was the shortest-ever run chase in the tournament history.
West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, became the first player to cross the 300 wicket mark in T20s and comfortably leads the way. Currently, on 387 wickets, Bravo is closing in on becoming the first bowler to take 400 T20 wickets. Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga in second place with 325 wickets from just 243 matches.
While there are two West Indians in the top three, the top ten is dominated by Pakistani bowlers, who occupy five of the top ten. There are two from West Indies and one each from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and South Africa.
Only 11 bowlers have managed to take over 250 wickets in T20s. Dirk Nannes only just misses out on the top ten as he ended his career with 257 wickets, just one behind Azhar Mahmood, who is in the 10th spot.
