Man City’s new signing Vitor Reis!
Oliver Hopkins of Opta Analyst examines the reasons behind Pep Guardiola’s decision to sign the gifted 19-year-old defender Vitor Reis as Manchester City completes the deal.
Manchester City’s 6-0 victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday may have served as a reminder of their calibre, but it’s undeniable that their high expectations for this season have been greatly let down.
Their spot in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages is still in jeopardy, as they are currently 12 points below the top of the Premier League table. Although there is always time for things to turn around, this is looking to be their worst season since Pep Guardiola took over as manager.

What will Guardiola’s team gain from Reis?
Reis has rapidly become one of Brazilian football’s most promising young defenders.
Reis, a right-footed centre-back who can also play right-back, graduated from Palmeiras’ prestigious academy. This academy has recently produced players like Estevao Willian (who will join Chelsea on July 1), Luis Guilherme (who is currently at Real Madrid), and Endrick (who is currently at Real Madrid).
Reis’s rapid ascent to a regular position in Palmeiras’ first team is arguably his most impressive quality.
