Brendon McCullum will take over as England’s all-format head coach from 2025

Brendon McCullum‘s first assignment as England’s White Ball coach will be in India in January.

Brendon McCullum has been made England’s new men’s white-ball head coach. He will combine that role with his existing Test duties for 3 years! His upcoming challenges include the next 50-over World Cup in South Africa in 2027 and coaching the Test team to England’s next home Ashes campaign in 2027.

Having taken the lead since May 2022, McCullum has extended his term to the end of 2027. Beginning in January 2025, in conjunction with England’s white-ball tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy, he will take charge of both the Test and white-ball sides.

Marcus Trescothick will take on the role of Interim Head Coach in the interim for the forthcoming series against Australia and the Caribbean trip later in the year. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Test team, and I’m excited to extend my role to include the white-ball sides,” McCullum said.

I’m excited to collaborate closely with Jos (Buttler) and the team to build on the solid foundations that are already in place as I take on this new task.

“English cricketers have a tremendous amount of talent, and I’m excited to help them realise their full potential. My objective is to establish a setting in which everyone can prosper and in which we can maintain our elite level of competition in all formats.”

McCullum will have a brief vacation back home in New Zealand following the conclusion of the Test series against Sri Lanka at the Oval next week. He will then rejoin the Test team for their winter tours of Pakistan in October and the three-match Test series against New Zealand in December.

England has won 19 of its 28 Test matches since McCullum’s aggressive style, known as “Baseball,” took over a team that had only won one of its prior 17 matches.
