Rishabh Pant appears set to make a comeback for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL edition.
Star batsman and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has made significant progress lately, which is good news for Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Pant has shown noticeable improvement and is expected to participate in the upcoming IPL season. Recently, he played a warm-up game in Alur, near Bengaluru, indicating that he might return to competitive cricket after a long break.

According to the Cricbuzz report, Pant’s agility and fitness have remained intact, allowing him to bat and run without any difficulty. However, Delhi Capitals’ management has decided to relieve Pant from wicket-keeping duties for IPL 2024. Therefore, he will participate in the tournament solely as a batter, subject to clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Delhi Capitals missed Pant’s middle-order firepower last season, but his comeback will offer them the much-needed boost in IPL 2024. His dynamic captaincy and experience will undoubtedly elevate the franchise’s performance. Recently, DC head coach Ricky Ponting expressed confidence in Pant’s readiness and affirmed that the star player is determined to participate in the entirety of this year’s IPL.
Pant has been India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter across formats in recent years. However, a tragic car accident near Roorkee on December 30, 2022, resulted in his absence from numerous significant cricketing events, including IPL 2023 and ODI World Cup 2024.

Since his debut in 2016, Pant has been a consistent performer for Delhi Capitals in IPL. He has led the franchise in 30 IPL matches, guiding them to victory 16 times. Throughout his 98 IPL appearances, Pant has amassed 2,838 runs. Renowned for his explosive batting style, he has registered 15 half-centuries and one century in the IPL while maintaining an impressive strike rate of 147.97.
