Can PBKS still qualify for the playoffs, and what are the chances for the Kings? Let’s talk about it
In a heartbreaking 23-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Dharamsala on Sunday, (PBKS) Punjab Kings’ IPL 2026 campaign took yet another terrible turn. In addition to solidifying RCB’s outstanding season, the win gave them the first club to formally qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, suffered their sixth straight loss in the competition, leaving them to face a challenging qualifying equation.
IPL 2026, Match 63: Who’s gonna win today’s game between CSK vs SRH?
Punjab Kings lose for the sixth time in a row
After suffering six straight losses at the close of the season, the Punjab Kings have now entered a risky stage of the competition. The team’s momentum has totally vanished over the past several weeks, turning what once appeared to be a potential postseason push into a desperate struggle for survival.
PBKS’s IPL 2026 playoff qualification scenario
Punjab Kings are mathematically still in the running for the IPL 2026 playoffs despite their terrible performance. With 13 points from 13 games, Shreyas Iyer’s team is now ranked fourth. If they defeat the Lucknow Super Giants in their final league game on May 23, they can still reach a maximum of 15 points.
But qualifying won’t be assured by that victory alone. The first and most crucial need is simple: Punjab Kings must defeat LSG in their last game. They would be instantly eliminated from the tournament if they lost or were washed out.
Additionally, the Punjab Kings need a number of positive outcomes from other teams:
- To stay below the 15-point threshold, Chennai Super Kings must lose at least one of their remaining games against GT or SRH.
- Delhi Capitals would fall behind Punjab if PBKS wins their last game because they can only score 14 points.
- The Kolkata Knight Riders have to lose at least one of their next two games. Including NRR, KKR will end with 15 points if they win both games.
- To remain below Punjab’s possible total, Sunrisers Hyderabad must lose their final two games.
- Punjab Kings will now have to wait anxiously due to numerous conditions. They have a slim chance of making the playoffs.
