Over the past 10 years, this has been a member of the secondary each season. Five times over that period, safety has led the Buckeyes in interceptions, while four times it has been a cornerback and there was a tie in 2011. For the purposes of today’s poll, we’ll expect that trend to continue. Today’s main candidates to lead the team in interceptions in alphabetical order by position are safeties Marcus Hooker and Josh Proctor and cornerbacks Sevyn BanksCameron BrownTyreke JohnsonShaun Wade, and Marcus Williamson.

Some of the reasons Hooker was ineffective during the three sessions that the Buckeyes had last month was with the others with Proctor. Proctor, a junior, last year served as the backup to Jordan Fuller and had his first career interception against Florida Atlantic in the 2019 season opener. Proctor is scheduled to be the starting safety for the Scarlet and Gray in 2020 but will have to secure his spot before the season begins.

Ohio State will have two new starters at corner this year. Banks and Brown are two of the major contenders to step into starting roles. Last year, the two juniors had more support positions experience and would compete to replace Jeff Okudah and Damon Arnette. Although Brown has no career picks, Banks last year registered the first interception of his career against Northwestern.

Johnson was a five-star recruit coming from high school but on campus, he redshirted his first year and sparingly played last season. When Johnson makes an interception in 2020 that will be his first year in college.
