A look at five young IPL talents who can make it to the Indian team.
IPL is certainly one of the biggest tournaments in the world which provides an invaluable experience to the young players from India and all over the world. With so many experienced players and coaching staffs getting involved in the IPL, the youth can only get better as they gain so much knowledge about the game.
Over the years IPL has proved to be a career-changing stage for many cricketers as they have utilized the given opportunity to knock the doors of the national side. There are several young Indian players coming through the ranks with some stellar performances and are catching the eyes of the selectors.
Here’s a look at five young IPL talents who can make it to the Indian team:
1) Prithvi Shaw:
Prithvi Shaw, at the moment, is going through the best phase of his young cricketing career. He led the under-19 Indian team to world cup glory with some inspired leadership under the guidance of legendary Rahul Dravid and now he has lightened up the IPL with his fantastic stroke play.
Shaw made the headlines as a 14-year-old kid when he made a mammoth 546 runs from 330 balls in a school competition. Since then he has made rapid strides with some spectacular performances in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy. The 18-year-old is gifted with brilliant hand-eye coordination and he picks up length so quickly which is the biggest feature of his game.

2) Shubman Gill:
Very rarely we see a technically sound batsman at a very young age. Shubman Gill is one such rare prodigies. The 23-year old from Punjab took the under-19 world cup by storm by smashing 372 runs in the five innings he played at an impeccable average of 124 which includes a century against Pakistan. Gill was also named the player of the tournament for having an outstanding tournament.
Gill has a stable base and a nifty footwork against spin which sets him apart from the other young talents. He caught the eyes of several cricketing pundits and also managed to land a deal at KKR for 1.8 crores. The right-handed batsman proved his worth by playing a match-winning knock against CSK in a tough chase.
3) Mayank Markande:
Mayank Markande set the IPL alight with his glorious debut against CSK by picking up 3 wickets for 23 runs including the big fish MS Dhoni. The 23-year-old later went on to hold the purple cap on multiple occasions. His stellar performances in Syed Ali Mushtaq trophy caught the eyes of the Mumbai Indians owners and they bought him for an amount of 20 lakhs.
The right arm wrist spinner isn’t afraid of tossing the ball up even after getting hit and it shows his attacking mindset of going for wickets. In this T20 era where leg spinners are in huge demand, the Punjab lad might soon be seen in Indian colours.
4) Shivam Mavi:
Shivam Mavi is a skiddy customer and often tantalizes the batsman with his sheer pace. Mavi clocks 140 plus consistently and that’s always quite a handful in any conditions. The 23-year old was Prithvi Shaw’s go-to bowler in the under 19 world cup to break partnerships and he always rose to the occasion and delivered the knockout punch.
Along with Gill and Nagarkoti, KKR also bought Shivam Mavi in the IPL auctions and he made his debut against Sunrisers. Though he doesn’t have much to show in the wickets column, he has impressed his captain with his bowling and has been given a consistent go.
If Mavi keeps on improving and performs to his abilities he could don the Indian colours soon.
5) Avesh Khan:
The tall and strongly built right arm fast bowler rushes the batsman with his raw pace and hits the hard length on a consistent basis. Having been with RCB last year the 21-year-old didn’t have ample opportunities to exhibit his talent. However, Delhi Daredevils bought him in this year’s auction and he’s been excellent for them so far.
Avesh Khan has a terrific yorker which is an added asset when it comes to the limited-overs format. Also, the young pacer doesn’t shy away from having a word or two with the batsmen which shows his aggressive nature. Apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, the fast bowling reserves for India don’t look great and the inclusion of Avesh Khan will be a huge bonus.
