Virat Kohli’s 34th ODI century helped India take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the ODI series against South Africa after beating the hosts by 124 runs in the third ODI at Cape Town. Kuldeep Yadav registered his career-best ODI figures for the second time in three ODIs as India comprehensively beat the Proteas.

Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal made it seem like a good decision but a 140-run partnership for the second wicket between Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli gave India the ideal platform. Here are some interesting numbers from the third ODI:

0 – India have won nine consecutive ODIs outside India, which is the longest streak in ODI history. They had previously won eight in a row on four different occasions.

0 – No Indian captain has more ODI centuries than Virat Kohli (12). He went past Sourav Ganguly, who finished with 11 ODI centuries as captain.

1 – Virat Kohli became the first Indian batsman to score 100 runs by running in an ODI innings. Of Kohli’s 160, 60 came from boundaries (12 fours, 2 sixes) and there 75 singles, 11 twos and one three. The previous-best was 98 (out of 130) by Sourav Ganguly against Sri Lanka in 1999.

2 – Kohli became only the second Indian captain after Kapil Dev to score a 150 in an ODI outside India.

2 – India became just the second team after Australia to win three consecutive ODIs against South Africa in South Africa.

3 – Kohli is third on the list of players with most centuries as ODI captain. Only Ricky Ponting (22 in 220 innings) and AB de Villiers (13 in 98 innings) have more.

6 – This was the sixth time that Kohli has scored over 300 runs in a bilateral ODI series. No other player has done it more than four times.

7 – Only seven Indian players have hit more ODI sixes than Virat Kohli (101). MS Dhoni leads the way with 216 sixes.

33 – Kohli became the 33rd batsman to score more than 100 sixes in ODIs.

42 – This was the 42nd time that Virat Kohli has been involved in a 300+ team total in ODIs since 2010. That is the most of any player in that period. Dhoni and Amla are second with 38.

138 – Kohli’s previous-highest score in the first innings of an ODI was his 138 against South Africa in Chennai in 2015 before his 160* in the third ODI.
