The Indian captain overtook AB de Villiers to reclaim the top spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings
Indian captain Virat Kohli has added another feather to his bulging cap by achieving the highest ranking points by an Indian batsman in the history of ODIs. He achieved the feat in the final ODI of the India-New Zealand series, reclaiming the top spot in the ODI batting rankings that he had lost to AB de Villiers just ten days back.
Sachin Tendulkar, who catapulted to a different league during the 1998 season, held the previous record for the best ranking by an Indian, having achieved 887 points around two decades back. Kohli, on the back of two hundreds in the series, became the second highest century maker in ODIs, and surpassed Tendulkar’s ‘98 record by reaching 889 points.
Rohit Sharma, who has been in a rich run of form ever since his comeback to the Indian team from injury, reached his career-best tally of 799, moving to the seventh spot in the latest rankings. Indian stumper MS Dhoni also moved one spot to reach 11th, although opener Shikhar Dhawan took a one slot drop to reach the 15th spot.
