Former India skipper MS Dhoni turned 36 on Friday. Dhoni began his ODI career in 2004 against Bangladesh but unfortunately missed out on scoring a single run on debut. But the right-handed batsman didn’t waste much time and scored 148 against Pakistan in Visakhapatnam in April 2005. He has so far scored 9496 runs in 296 ODIs.

In 2007, India won the inaugural World T20 under his captaincy while in 2011 Dhoni became the second Indian skipper to lead the country to a World Cup triumph when India defeated Sri Lanka in the final in Mumbai. Two years later, MS became the only captain to win all three ICC trophies after the men in Blue won Champions Trophy 2013. He is arguably the greatest limited overs captain India has had having led the Men in Blue to the ICC World T20, ICC World Cup, and ICC Champions Trophy during his stint as captain. 

Known for his helicopter shot, former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has finished the job for India several times. One of the most memorable moments came back in 2011 when he launched one into the stands, and sealed India’s emphatic win in the World Cup at Wankhede stadium.

The Jharkhand batsman first became the India captain in 2007 for the World T20 and he led a young Indian team to the title. Four years later, he led India to title victory in the 50-over World Cup in Mumbai. Two years later in 2013, Dhoni completed the treble of trophies by winning the Champions Trophy in London.

In the Indian Premier League, Dhoni is the most successful skipper. With Chennai Super Kings, he had won two IPL trophy while leading the team into six finals. In the last IPL season, Dhoni was with Rising Pune Supergiant which reached the final before losing to Mumbai Indians.
