Tottenham Hotspur has completed the loan transfer of 19-year-old attacker Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. The agreement contains an option for Tottenham to make the transfer permanent for a sum of about €55 million, with potential add-ons raising the total to €60 million. When the Bundesliga giants bought Tel from Rennes for about £23 million in 2022, then-Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic branded him as “one of the biggest talents in Europe”.
However, after two and a half seasons and nine Bayern starts, he has yet to realise his full potential. Tel joins a Spurs squad that enters Thursday’s League Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield with a 1-0 advantage, is still in the Europa League and FA Cup, but is 14th in the Premier League.
Spurs are 14th in the Premier League rankings, and their next game is a League Cup semi-final second-leg clash against Liverpool on Thursday, with Spurs leading 1-0 after the first leg.
