
The Celtics beat the undermanned Cavs in Game 5 to head to their sixth conference finals in eight years.
In the 2024 NBA playoffs, the Boston Celtics will return to the Eastern Conference finals. On Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-98 in Game 5 of their second-round series. The Celtics are making their sixth straight and third consecutive trip to the Eastern Conference finals in the last eight seasons.

Leading scorer Donovan Mitchell (calf injury) missed the Cavaliers’ second straight game due to injury. Caris LeVert (knee) started the Game 4 defeat in Mitchell’s substitute. The Cavaliers held strong, taking the lead in the first half and maintaining a lead until Boston started to pull away in the middle of the fourth quarter.

The Celtics made 19 3-pointers and had a 52.5% shooting percentage from the field. With six different players scoring in double figures, the Celtics experienced a quiet game from Jaylen Brown (11 points).
Similar to Game 4 without Mitchell, the Celtics’ performance was below expectations, but they still prevailed to move to 8-2 in the series. In the conference finals, the top seed from the East will now face the victor of the Knicks vs. Pacers series.
