‘Profoundly honoured’: Matildas boost as Australia wins hosting rights for 2026 Women’s Asian Cup.
Australia was the only member nation to submit a bid to host the tournament, with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) executive committee confirming the decision in Bangkok on Wednesday. AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa stated, “I am confident we will see a more vibrant and competitive edition in 2026 in Australia, where the unrivalled passion for the women’s game is so palpable.”

The 2023 Women’s World Cup, which was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, was a major success and provided a solid foundation for the call. The Matildas advanced to the semifinals before falling to Sweden in the third-place play-off.
Australia’s Western, Queensland, and New South Wales will host the games.
