Liverpool has agreed to buy Darwin Nez from Benfica on a verbal basis and are drafting the paperwork to complete the transaction. Virgil van Dijk’s £75 million fees is the highest-paid by Liverpool, who have acted boldly over Nez despite Manchester United’s interest. Nez was the best scorer in Portugal in the 2021-22 season, scoring 26 league goals and a total of 34 goals, including two in the Champions League versus Liverpool.

Nez has been with Benfica since September 2020, making 85 appearances and scoring 48 goals. He was formerly with Almera, who is entitled to 20% of Benfica’s profit under the conditions of his €24 million transfer from the Spanish club, where he signed from Pearol in his hometown.
Mohamed Salah, who turns 30 on Wednesday, has stated that he intends to stay at Liverpool for the remainder of his contract. With Roberto Firmino approaching 30 years old, Klopp’s attacking line is clearly in need of regeneration. Diogo Jota and Daz are also 25, and Nez would add even more youth to the mix.
