Winning and losing are a part of the game. The personal attack on Shami is uncalled for.
On Sunday, India lost their T20 World Cup opener by ten wickets, with Shami proving to be the most expensive bowler, conceding 43 runs in 3.5 overs.
Following India’s loss, commentators attempted to blame Shami for the setback, calling him a “traitor” and urging him to “move to Pakistan.” Shami is the only Muslim cricketer among the eleven players who took part in Sunday’s match against Pakistan.
The assaults on Shami come after several Kashmiri students from Punjabi universities claimed that they were assaulted by fellow students in the aftermath of the loss.
While many people expressed their opinions on Twitter, most of the hatred was directed towards Shami’s Instagram posts.
