Danielle Dorris of Canada had earned her first-ever Paralympic medal, the country’s seventh silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympic Games, and its 12th overall.

The 18-year-old cut through the water from the beginning, demonstrating that she was the one to beat. Despite being caught at the finish by an American, the Moncton, N.B., swimmer finished in a time of one minute 21.91 seconds.

Meanwhile, Canada’s other silver medal on Day 3 of the Paralympics was won by Priscilla Gagné in the judo women’s 52-kilogram category. Algeria’s Cherine Abdellaoui took gold.

Gagné, who has a visual impairment called retinitis pigmentosa, carried the Canadian flag at the opening ceremonies on Tuesday.

Canada now has six medals at the Paralympics in Tokyo, with four total silvers, and two bronze.
