Ronaldo becomes the greatest goalscorer in the European Championship finals
Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals in Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Hungary at the Puskas Arena on Tuesday, breaking the record for most goals in a European Championship match.
In the 87th minute, Ronaldo scored his 10th goal of the tournament from the penalty spot, and he added a second in injury time. Over the course of five continental competitions, he has scored 11 goals. At nine goals, he was even with Michel Platini going into the game.
When replacement Szabolcs Schon cut inside from the right and placed a low shot into the corner of the net after 80 minutes, the 67,215-seat Puskas Arena exploded in joy. Schon was offside as he raced onto the ball, therefore the goal was disallowed.
