A couple of scorecards went viral on social media as fans missed ‘savior’ MS Dhoni after India recorded their lowest ever innings total in Test history, in Adelaide Test against Australia.

Team India endured its worst hour of humiliation under Virat Kohli when crashing to its lowest Test score of 36 as a rampaging Australia cruised in the opening Day/Night Test here on Saturday to an emphatic eight-wicket win within two and half days.

There were no demons on the field, but with three more tests to go, Josh Hazlewood (5-3-8-5) and Patrick Cummins (10.2-4-21-4) demonstrated fast bowling of the finest standard, the effect of which would be far-reaching.

India’s earlier lowest score was 42 at the Lord’s in 1974 against England, known in Indian cricket parlance as the “Summer of 42”. Saturday’s total was also the lowest score in the brief history of D/N Tests and the joint fifth lowest overall.

The easy target of 90 runs was achieved by the home side in only 21 overs without much fuss.

The home team collected 30 World Test Championship points from the win, while its skipper Tim Paine was adjudged player of the match for his gritty first innings knock of 73.

India have now lost three successive Tests well inside three days with two being in New Zealand earlier this year.

Once again, the name of former India captain MS Dhoni trended on Twitter after the visitors posted their lowest Test score. Regarded as one of the greatest finishers the game has ever seen, under pressure conditions, Dhoni played several match-saving knocks for the side.

From India’s tour of England in 2014, a few scorecards went viral on social media, where Dhoni had scored half-centuries to save India from disastrous batting failures and save the team from humiliation. ‘Saviour’ Dhoni was skipped by fans when the scorecards of the Manchester and Oval test matches went viral.
