Fans watching the match at the stadium were initially warned that the racist behavior of some of them was causing interference with the game. This was after Cezar Azpilicueta, the Chelsea captain reported the concerned incident to match referee Anthony Taylor.

Later on, talking to Sky Sports, Azpilicueta said that every time they have meetings with the referees prior to the Premier League games, they’re clearly asked to report any such incidents, and that is exactly what he did. Rudiger came to him and informed him about some racist chants sang towards him, and hence he reported it immediately to the referee, letting the latter do his job.
