Samuel Badree takes first hat-trick of IPL 2017 for RCB against MI

IPL 2018: Royal Challengers Bangalore complete squad

The West Indian legspinner has taken the first hat-trick of the season by getting the wickets  of Parthive Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma for his team RCB and wipe out MI at 7/4 in chase of 143.

With a low total to defend, RCB slotted legspinner Samuel Badree to bowl the first over and Badree has struck too and he gets the other Mumbai opener – Parthiv Patel. Second catch for Gayle as he shows good reflexes to pouch that at short extra cover and third wicket of captian.

The hat-trick has had a significant impact on the game. When the over began, Mumbai Indians were 7/1, looking a bit shaky due to the early wicket but still having the match well under control due to the low score that they were chasing. But after that over, they were 8/4 and all of a sudden, RCB were favourites to win the match.

The West Indies leg-spinner made his international debut in a T20I in 2012. He was part of the team that lifted the 2012, World T20 title in Colombo. The Trinidad & Tobago player made his first-class debut in 2001-02 and played his first List A match the following season. He was the Man of the Match in Trinidad & Tobago’s victory against Barbados in the WICB Cup final in 2008.

Badree made his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 season. He impressed with some intelligent performances in the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 which made other teams stand up and take notice of him. This resulted in him being picked by CSK in the IPL Player Auction 2014.

He was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 auction. Most recently, he turned out to be a huge contributor in West Indies’ run to the ICC World T20 title in 2016, picking up 9 wickets and conceding runs at a miserly economy rate of 5.39.

He was a part of that special bunch that won West Indies the World Twenty20 title in 2012 in Colombo. Since then he has become an integral part of the West Indian team in the T20 format.

Badree relies on varying his pace and his quicker ball to get the breakthroughs. But he also has a neat little googly up his sleeve that he uses to stump batsmen. And the best part? He can open the bowling while stifling the batsmen and taking those valuable early wickets!
