Breaking: Why Barcelona want to sell Coutinho?

Lionel Messi prefers Barcelona to sell Ousmane Dembele
Lionel Messi prefers Barcelona to sell Ousmane Dembele instead of Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho is currently heavily linked with a move away from Barca this summer with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly in the running for his signature.

Barcelona wanted Philippe Coutinho so badly that they had been chasing him for a whole summer, lost out, looked stupid, and still came back four months later, making him the most expensive player they had ever signed. Lionel Messi wanted him too; he told Josep Bartomeu, the club president.

Andrés Iniesta said that he clearly had the right personality to excel. And the Director of Sport said he could be, well, Andrés Iniesta. As for Luis Suárez, he laughs at suggestions he played estate agent, but he did help Coutinho find a house. He also warned his ex-Liverpool teammate that it wasn’t going to be easy.

His former club Liverpool has gone from strength to strength after earning himself a ‘dream’ £142 m move to Barcelona in January 2018, while struggling to make an impression at his new home.

Barça is now interested in unloading the Brazilian, with a source confirming that this is the case to 90min because they are looking to free up funds for new arrivals. Liverpool refused first, but they are unlikely to take up this option.

As a result, Coutinho has been linked to just about every club in Europe with its unclear future. Chelsea’s likes, Arsenal, and Tottenham appear to be the most likely destinations, while Manchester United (somehow), Leicester, Everton, and Newcastle United’s soon-to-be financial powerhouse have all expressed interest.

The 27-year-old has already shown the Barça faithful what he can bring to the team, picking up eight goals and five assists in just 16 starting places after his first move to the club. Not to mention the impressive performances that he put in to initially draw La Blaugrana to sign him for such a strong number.

What do you do with a problem like Coutinho? Well, if all else fails, you could try playing him.
