The NCAA dead date is extended in two months for the third time.
More than 2 weeks since the termination of Division 1 Recruiting dead period to June 30, the NCAA has extended the dead date again, this time to July 31.
The announcement comes as Division 1 colleges plan to require student-athletes to begin certain fitness exercises in person on June 1.

The extension establishes uniform eligibility guidelines for all sports and encourages teams to concentrate on the student-athletes who might come to campus, “Council chair M said. Grace Calhoun, University of Pennsylvania athletics director. “In late June or early July, the Commission is dedicated to revising the dead time again.”
The committee’s recommendation to require strength and conditioning coaches to track players virtually is a modern wrinkle that matches the pattern in other programs around the nation. The Big 12, SEC, and Pac-12 revealed this week that they would require free on-campus workouts for all sports beginning in mid-June, as states gradually loosen constraints in the wake of the football fall training camps.
Although coaches are now allowed to recruit through fax, phone calls, and email when in a regularly scheduled dead time, they can not have meetings with high school athletes recruited in person. This covers trips to the school and even activities beyond the school. This decision means there will be no official visits this spring for football programs and voids the quiet period at the end of July. The sport also has a dead spot on the daily calendar from June 22 to July 24 so from June 1 to June 21 and from July 25 to July 31 it should have been required to have prospects on the field.
For soccer, this ensures that in July, along with no scouting trips, no camps will take part. Players may still commit verbally, as the June 15 window opens for sophomores to communicate with coaches.

The agreement to prolong the dead time for men’s basketball removes the review window for coaches and should have taken place June 17-21, June 26-28, July 9-12, and July 21-26. Basketball programs would have been permitted to have possibilities to visit the college for all of June and most of July, with a dead period occurring July 6-8 and July 13-20.
Several of the sports of Division I will be impacted including baseball and softball, both of which had initially set contact periods for most of June and July.
