Mumbai’s young sensation Prithvi Shaw has been named as the captain of the Indian team for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup that is scheduled to take place in New Zealand from January 18.
Prithvi would lead the side that includes the Punjab duo of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, new ball partners from Rajasthan Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi, Bengal pacer Ishan Porel among others. Shubman has been named Prithvi’s deputy for the extravaganza.
With coach Rahul Dravid making sure that a player is entitled to take part in a maximum of one Under-19 World Cup, the likes of Washington Sundar, Ishan Kishan, Anmolpreet Singh etc. were not considered for selection.
The players will attend a training camp in Bengaluru starting from December 8 till December 22. With skipper Prithvi and pacer Ishan Porel being named in their respective side’s squads (Mumbai and Bengal respectively) for the Ranji Trophy quarter-final, the duo has been granted permission to take part in the match and then join the camp on December 12.

Prithvi’s boys start their campaign against Australia on January 14 followed by PNG and Zimbabwe on January 16 and January 19 respectively. All the three league matches featuring India will take place at the Bay Oval in Tauranga.
