New Zealand Beat India 2-1 for the first time on Indian soil

IND vs NZ: Clarke added to New Zealand squad for first three T20Is against India as injury cover for Bracewell, Milne

New Zealand clinched their first one-day international series win in India with a 41-run victory in the deciding third match.

New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs to seal a historic 2-1 ODI series win at the Holkar Stadium, but Bracewell did not bowl after suffering a calf niggle while fielding. Despite Virat Kohli’s record-breaking 54th ODI century of 124, kiwis managed to register 337-8 in Indore thanks to Daryl Mitchell’s 137 and Glenn Phillips’ 106. Zak Foulkes’s subsequent deliveries were crucial as he removed Mohammed Siraj for a duck and Harshit Rana, who had reached 52.

After Mitchell caught Kohli at long-off two overs later, the hosts were bowled out for 296 in 46 overs, losing the series 2-1.

The T20 series will help New Zealand prepare for next month’s World Cup, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka. The Kiwis are placed in Group D with South Africa, Afghanistan, Canada and the UAE. The Mitchell Santner-led side will face Afghanistan in its first game in Chennai on February 8.

New Zealand coach Rob Walter said, “We’ve got a fair bit of player movement at the moment with some guys returning from injury for this series, others joining us immediately from franchise cricket, and the rest coming off the India ODI series and Super Smash.
