Eighteen 21 contenders for the seven main NBA awards were fellows on my ballot. Since that contains all of my top selections.. For Kia MVP, I chose Shai Gilgeous-Alexander over Nikola Jokić based on OKC’s 68 victories over Denver’s 50 and the simple criteria of “best player on best team.

  • Kia MVP = Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Kia Rookie of the Year = Stephon Castle, San Antonio Spurs
  • Kia Defensive Player of the Year = Dyson Daniels, Atlanta Hawks
  • Kia Sixth Man of the Year = Payton Pritchard, Boston Celtics
  • Kia Most Improved Player = Dyson Daniels, Atlanta Hawks
  • Kia Clutch Player of the Year = Jalen Brunson, New York Knicks
  • NBA Coach of the Year = J.B. Bickerstaff, Detroit Pistons

It’s impossible to answer since distinguishing between the top two choices (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokić) is challenging. Both have extraordinary accomplishments and would have won MVP if they hadn’t happened in the same season. Voting for Gilgeous-Alexander or Jokić is unquestionably correct and cannot be criticised. Both are incredibly deserved.

When forced to choose, I’d go with Gilgeous-Alexander because of his two-way play, consistency, and contribution to his team’s success.

  • Kia MVP = Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Kia Rookie of the Year = Stephon Castle, San Antonio Spurs
  • Kia Defensive Player of the Year = Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Kia Sixth Man of the Year = Malik Beasley, Detroit Pistons
  • Kia Most Improved Player = Dyson Daniels, Atlanta Hawks
  • Kia Clutch Player of the Year = Nikola Jokić, Denver Nuggets
  • NBA Coach of the Year = Kenny Atkinson, Cleveland Cavaliers

The Coach of the Year voting was fascinating. If J.B. Bickerstaff hadn’t coached the Cavaliers last season, he’d be the clear favourite. Despite making no major personnel moves, the Detroit Pistons were the league’s third-most improved offence and defence. The challenge for Bickerstaff is that Kenny Atkinson transformed his last squad (which had even fewer changes) into a title contender.

  • Kia NBA Rookie of the Year = Stephon Castle, San Antonio Spurs
  • Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year = Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers

The biggest award, Kia MVP, was also difficult to decide. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is expected to win, but there is no significant difference between him and Nikola Jokić. Speaking of gaps, Gilgeous-Alexander should win because of the difference between OKC and the rest of the Western Conference.

  • Kia Rookie of the Year = Stephon Castle, San Antonio Spurs
  • Kia Defensive Player of the Year = Dyson Daniels, Atlanta Hawks
  • Kia Sixth Man of the Year = Payton Pritchard, Boston Celtics
  • Kia Most Improved Player = Ivica Zubac, LA Clippers
  • Kia Clutch Player of the Year = Nikola Jokić, Denver Nuggets
  • NBA Coach of the Year = Kenny Atkinson, Cleveland Cavaliers
