Friday saw the fourth meeting between Aston Villa and Cardiff in the FA Cup, with Cardiff winning two and Villa winning one. Nobody was looking into it because the most recent one occurred in 1948/49. Villa were unbeaten in their last 15 home matches against Cardiff, winning seven of them, and had not lost since December 1954.
It was Villa’s first FA Cup fifth-round match since 2015 when they defeated Leicester City and advanced to the final, where they lost convincingly to Arsenal.
