Melie Kerr: World Cup hero named ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year!!

Kerr has been named the world’s best player after an excellent year in T20I cricket, highlighted by a Player of the Tournament performance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, when she powered New Zealand to their first T20 World Cup victory. The 24-year-old is only the second New Zealander to win the accolade, following in the footsteps of her World Cup-winning colleague Suzie Bates, who earned it in 2016.

One of the highlights of Kerr’s incredible year was her ability to raise her game in the most important situations, coming up as a key player for the White Ferns in crucial knockout matches on the way to the T20 triumph.

 

Melie Kerr’s T20I record for 2024: 387 runs and 29 wickets in 18 matches.

Kerr averaged 24.18 runs per game and had a strike rate of only 13.6 wickets in 18 matches this year. Kerr’s 29 wickets in a calendar year are the most by a New Zealand woman cricketer in history.

Her 15 wickets in the UAE tournament are the most ever taken by a single bowler at an ICC Women’s T20I World Cup, and she averaged 7.33 with an economy rate of 4.85 across six matches, making her the competition’s standout bowler.
