Sad News: FIFA & EA Sports long partnership deal comes to an end

EA Sports will release new football games under 'EA Sports FC'

Electronic Arts (EA Sports) has stated that FIFA-branded football games would no longer be produced.

It is one of the most successful gaming brands in history. However, one of the primary motivations in the decision to cease the relationship was the cost of the licence.

EA will continue to make football video games, but starting in 2023, they will be known as EA Sports FC. FIFA said that it will release new football video games created by third-party studios and publishers, but that it has granted EA Sports a new short-term extension to release a new “FIFA 23” title later this year.

According to the New York Times, FIFA was wanting at least double the $150 million it gets annually from EA Sports, its largest commercial partner, and there were differing expectations of what should be included in a new arrangement.

Both parties have apparently made adjustments to keep the cooperation going until the Women’s World Cup next summer.

In 2023, EA Sports FC, a redesigned version of the game with more than 300 licensing partners, including the Premier League, Laila, and the UEFA, will be released.

For future games, EA claims to have signed up 19,000 athletes, 700 teams, 100 stadiums, and over 30 leagues. As a result, they’re hinting that they’ll keep providing real-world experiences. Among them are the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, and UEFA.

However, this means that EA will no longer produce games like FIFA: Road to World Cup 98, which were released to coincide with the World Cup. There will be one final FIFA game, with FIFA 23 releasing in the autumn.
