Brooklyn Nets Could Be on Course for First Championship in NBA Era

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the most recognizable franchises in the NBA, however, they have yet to win the championship since they joined the league in 1976.

With a roster that now includes Kevin Durrant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving, they have the talent to make history in Brooklyn this season.

The Nets have got off to a fast start to the 2021/22 campaign. They have won 21 of their opening 30 games and they look on course to be one of the top seeds in the Eastern Conference during the postseason.

Brooklyn has NBA betting odds of +260 to win their maiden championship in June. They have reached the NBA Finals twice but were beaten in 2002 and 2003 by the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs respectively.

Steve Nash’s side is one of the most popular basketball betting tips in the NBA this season, particularly on the road as they have won 11 of their opening 14 games. If they continue with such a high winning percentage, they are going to prove hard to stop.

Atlantic Division Title Is the First Aim

The Nets have not won the Atlantic Division since 2006. However, they have reached the playoffs in each of the last three seasons, as one of the leading eight teams in the Eastern Conference.

With a 48-24 record in the 2020/21 campaign, Brooklyn were very unfortunate not to win their division. They were one win behind Philadelphia 76ers, who were the number one seeds in their conference.

The Nets have had a better start than they did to the last campaign. Durrant is leading the team with some huge performances. No player in the NBA is averaging more points per game than the former MVP.

Once the division is wrapped up, Brooklyn will then be aiming for the Eastern Conference title. The last time they came out on top in the conference was in 2003.

Irving Can Give the Nets the Extra Push They Need

Brooklyn is set to be boosted by the return of Irving to the team for road games. The point guard should be fresh, and that is something that will take a little pressure off Durrant and Harden.

Irving signed for the Nets in the free agency in July 2019. He averaged an impressive 27.9 points per game in his opening season in Brooklyn. In his debut for his new franchise, he became the first player in the history of the NBA to score 50 points on their debut for a team.

It was a huge blow for Brooklyn last season when he injured his ankle in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semi-final against the Milwaukee Bucks. That was a huge turning point in the series which was won by the eventual NBA champions

Irving won the NBA Championship with Cleveland Cavaliers so his experience will prove invaluable in the postseason, should the Nets secure their place.

Brooklyn will be hoping they can parade the trophy when the NBA season concludes on June 19 next year.
