Broad made his 150th appearance for the Three Lions in a Test match. Only Anderson and Cook have played in more than 150 England Tests. Anderson tops the chart with 167 appearances, while Cook is second with 161 appearances.

Due to an injury, Josh Hazlewood will miss the ongoing Test, which is a day-night affair. After coming into close contact with a COVID-19 infected person, Jhye Richardson was named his replacement, and just before the start of the match, skipper Pat Cummins had to withdraw his name from the starting XI.
