“It was something on my thoughts when I recently announced my decision to step down as T20 captain in order to manage my massive workload. I’d like to be crystal clear about how I want to go. I’ve told the management that I can’t imagine myself playing for any other team than RCB,” he continued.
“Captaining a brilliant group of players in the RCB squad has been a fantastic and inspirational adventure. I’d want to use this occasion to express my gratitude to the RCB management, coaches, support staff, players, and the entire RCB family for their contributions to the franchise’s success throughout the years.”
Kohli revealed on Thursday that he will step down as India’s T20I captain after next month’s ICC T20 World Cup, which begins on October 17.
RCB has some interesting new additions to their roster, including Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and Singapore batsman Tim David, who will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their debut encounter in the UAE on Monday.
Kohli has been a stalwart for RCB since the start of the IPL in 2008. He was named the franchise’s captain in 2013, however he has yet to win the IPL trophy. RCB finished second in the 2016 edition under his captaincy.
Kohli has appeared in 199 IPL matches and has a total of 6076 runs, including five hundred.
